The present report provides information on the use of cohesive elements for the simulation of crack extension in specimens and structures with special focus on exploiting symmetry conditions. Applications of a user defined interface element based on traction-separation laws, are given. The report is meant to assist students starting to gain experience by passing know-how of a previous generation. The examples given at the end may serve as benchmarks.en_US
