dc.description.abstract The rise in traffic congestion in cities is a big problem for managing traffic and keeping roads safe. The Smart Traffic System is an advanced traffic light solution that helps reduce traffic jams, cut down waiting times, and improve how traffic moves, while also making roads safer for both vehicles and pedestrians. The system integrates technologies such as computer vision, IoT, and machine learning. Employing a Raspberry Pi microcontroller with cameras and motion sensors, the system monitors traffic in real time. Cameras capture images to identify vehicles, and inbuilt camera microphones are employed to sense emergency vehicle sirens. Upon detecting an emergency vehicle, the system prioritizes it by turning traffic lights green instantly. Likewise, it varies signal timing according to pedestrian presence to provide safety during crossings. By processing data from input sources at once, the Smart Traffic System enhances traffic management at heavy-duty intersections, offering a flexible solution to congestion, minimizing accidents, and promoting road safety en_US
