Abu Issa, Renad (2023). Intellectual content in Palestinian video art. Master's

This study dealt with a contemporary artistic phenomenon, which is video
art, where it aimed to reveal the most prominent types of video art dealt with
by the Palestinian artist, and monitor the most important intellectual content
included in the Palestinian video art, to reveal the appropriateness of the
content and message of the artwork with the artistic medium created, i.e.
"video art". the study came in five chapters, started by the researcher with
the first chapter, which was allocated to the methodological framework of
the study, in which the problem of the study, its importance and objectives,
in addition to its limits and terminology, and then came the second chapter,
which was allocated to the theoretical framework of the study, where it came
in three basic researches. the researcher addressed in the first topic the
content in the work of art and its relationship to the basic elements of the
work of art (matter, form and expression), and presented in the second paper
a historical overview of the emergence of video art and the most important
factors of its development in addition to mentioning the most important types
and the most important international video artists and their most prominent
works. the researcher highlighted in the third paper the most prominent
stations that affected the development of the Palestinian art movement
starting with the first intifada through the Oslo peace treaties, up to the
second intifada and the most important institutions that were the best
supporter and supporter of post-modern arts in Palestine. the third chapter
was devoted to mentioning the methodology followed in the current study,
and the fourth chapter was devoted to the analysis of the most important
works of video art in Palestine, where the researcher dealt with 13 works of
art and came up with the results of dealing with them in the fifth chapter, the
most important of which was: the Palestinian artist was able to keep pace
with the technological, cultural and global development and progress in the
world of arts, where he employed the video medium to express many
intellectual content, the Palestinian artist through the video medium in most
of his works with political content and sometimes included complex political
and social messages and content. the Palestinian artist was able to express
many social content and different topics, the Palestinian artist used the video

medium as a tool to express the feminist movement, and he also called for
liberation in some of them, whether from religious or social restrictions. the
works of the Palestinian artist video included many post-modern strategies
in his presentation of its intellectual contents such as absurdity, futility,
conflict, emptiness, impossibly and nowhere, allowed the video medium
through its possibilities provided by the artist to manipulate images and
videos to provoke the recipient to read those video works. the Palestinian
artist was able to put up many social contents that carry political content
lined up, the video is an art born of passion where the artist can through
sound, image and movement highlight his feelings to the recipient, the
Palestinian artist employed three forms of video art to express its intellectual
content. the Palestinian artist succeeded in exploiting the energy of the video
medium through the process of hybridization between the video and other
artistic media such as the image, the works of the Palestinian artist in the
field of video have not been without the element of humor and ridicule on
which some artists based the idea of their video work. |
