Abstract:
This project studies the medium voltage electric power network of Hebron city by using
Electrical Transient Analyzer Program (ETAP) and it aims to make the critical developments and
improvements on the network in order to minimize the power losses.
The core of this project is the use of the ETAP, as simulation tool property that allows us
to analyze and study the status of the network more accurately.
Hebron grid suffers from high losses, which about 21%, divided into technical and nontechnical
losses. In this project, several techniques are presented to reduce the power losses and
clarify their impact in improving power efficiency of the distribution system.
After studying the network, we found that the power losses in the medium voltage
network is 3.2%, which is an acceptable value according to the standards of The International
Electro-Technical Commission (IEC).
In this project, two scenarios were applied to the power flow analysis, in addition, a new
sub-station was added to the network.
Moreover, the scenarios studied and estimated the power losses before and after adding
the new sub-station and we made a redistribution of loads on the sub-stations in order to connect
the loads to the nearest sub-station feeders as much as possible, which helped in decreasing the
total power losses.
Finally, after studying the network, we found that the total power losses could be reduced
from 3.2% to 2.93% in MV, which makes a difference of 0.274% of the power losses
